This post, like Bryan, is hard to classify. I’ve put it under Local Art because Bryan is one of the local artists I admire - and I’ll show you a couple of my favorite of his works.
BUT, he is an innovator (he goes by Breadwig - and that should tell you something right there). You’ll see that shine through in his art.
AND, he is a prolific serial entrepreneur. He writes and designs children’s books, he designs and sells a line of toys (“Faulty Dogs”), he creates murals for public and private clients, and (of course) sells his visual art.
So, basically Bryan hits the trifecta of my own personal interests - art, entrepreneurship, and innovation!
This little beauty is Trashcan Dog, It is a part of the Faulty Dogs toy series. As you can see, this version is a translucent dog, lit by an LED hidden in the base. The lighting cycles through various colors. I bought this at a gallery exhibition where other Faulty Dogs were being shown because I was intrigued by the electronics powering this dog. Turns out, it is a one-of-a-kind prototype. Bryan will create various versions of a new toy, testing different shapes and different materials. This version spoke to me.
This photo is from a glossy print that checks in around 30 inches square. I was immediately attracted to how trippy it was (yes, I am a child of the late sixties / early seventies and all that you might imply from that). I love how Bryan created an image that contains a blend of so many different figures. Nearly each time you look at it, especially at first, you will see some new figure. Look at it from different angles and perspectives. Look at small sections and wide sections. Turn it upside down. Let your mind wander as new faces or figures (that you didn’t notice the time before) appear to pop out at you. Now you know why I love this work!
